Snow...and Other News

Yesterday John and I walked to a lecture...through a blizzard! I was so surprised to wake up this morning and see snow on the ground. In our house of 40 students from around the states there is quite a mix of feelings about the snow. A Californian was very excited about the snow..."I haven't seen snow in so many years....like probably at least 12, this is wonderful!" The Michiganders weren't quite so excited as that. The Georgians thought it was "absolutely freezing." Besides snow, some other students are seeing other new things as well. Just last weekend two guys went to a concert in Brighton (on the southern coast of England) and one of them, from North Dakota, saw the ocean for the FIRST time ever! Needless to say he enjoyed that. Although I have seen the ocean before, I would like to try and see the English ocean too!

I mentioned that John and I were heading to a lecture yesterday. Every Wednesday evening, all of the students in this States program attend a lecture and eat dinner together. The topics of these lectures are general and not specifically related to anything else that we are studying, but they do inform us on subjects related to England or the world. Last night we heard a man speak on the Middle East relations. I learned that I am not very knowledgeable on all of the issues that are occurring there.

It is week seven of the term, that means that there is just one more week. I have two final tutorials next week on Tuesday. My CS Lewis tutorial will focus on Till We Have Faces, a retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche. In the English Language I am studying the usage of literary language. I also have a final essay proposal due that will outline my final paper for the program that is due the last week we are here. After week eight we have a short break and then an additional three week course that will be specific to British history, life, and its people. Speaking of that break....next Thursday, John and I are leaving for Prague! Students are heading all around Europe for break...Italy, Greece, Scotland, France, Germany.... It will be so much fun to hear all of the stories when we all get back!
I am off to reading and writing and studying. Lots to do today!
